Viscosity index (VI)

Characterises the Viscosity/temperature characteristic of a fluid. The smaller the change in viscosity with respect to temperature, the higher the VI (CETOP RP 100).

The VI is mathematically calculated (DIN ISO 2909) and for the "conventional" mineral oils it lies between 95 and 100 and for oils with a flat VT curve (HV oils) it is around 160 and above.
