Seal for shafts and spindles (including against high pressures), that uses a tubular-shaped textile sealing material, which is under axial pressure, which, like the radial sealing tension created by this, decreases over the packing length according to an exponential function. This can be improved by using a "swimming" stuffing box (Figure S 95).
Stuffing boxes are used in hydraulics to seal off valve spindles and plunger pistons in pumps for pressurised water.
