Recirculation

Some of the oil film stuck to the piston shaft at the outlet of a cylinder is scraped off when the piston is inserted (results in leakage even in the case of an intact seal), while the other part is fed back into the loop. This recirculation becomes greater as the rear side of the seal becomes softer, the film becomes thinner and the return velocity increases (cf. flow within gaps).
