Pulse code modulation

Process for converting analogue signals to digital signals. Sampling will convert a signal that is continuous over time into a series of impulses. The transfer does not take the form of impulses of different strengths, but by encryption using a binary code. The sampling frequency was internationally set at 8 kHz and the number of amplitude values is limited to 256 (8-Bit codeword) (Figure P 33).
