Predetermined breaking part (predetermined breaking point)

Part of a system, which is designed with the intention of breaking in the case of overloading in order to protect the rest of the machine. At the same time, it is to be arranged such that it is easy to replace in the case of a break.

Example: Breaking pot in mechanical presses.

In hydraulics, the pressure-limiting valve performs the task of a predetermined breaking part without actually breaking.
