Characteristic whereby the relationship between two variables is not sufficiently linear, i.e. it does not satisfy the superposition and amplification principle.
The term covers non-linear characteristic curves, multiplication points for signals, response sensitivity, hysteresis and flow through throttles, as well as stiction, flow forces (Bernoulli forces), null drift and the like.
