Hydrostatic bearing

Arrangement whereby a mechanical pressure is compensated for by an opposing hydraulic pressure created by a separate power pack (Figure H 27).

The hydrostatic bearing is generally used when the intention is to reduce friction to an extremely low level and the boundary conditions do not favour the formation of a hydrodynamic supporting film.
