Problem-oriented depiction of the functions of the signal circuit in a control, independent of the type or equipment used, the line routing, the installation location and the like.
Instead of a detailed verbal functional description, in the function chart the technical requirements and the requirements necessary for operation are depicted clearly and unambiguously.
A function chart depicts the functions of a control in all its details (fine structure) or only the essential characteristics (coarse structure). It shows the allocation of the input and output signals to the individual function units as well as the intervention of the signal generator, via the signal input , in the control and the output of commands to the and displays. Also the function chart contains information on the type and extent of the signal generators, function units etc. used (Figure F 43).
The function chart is particularly suitable for the representation of the processes for sequential and logic control systems in the signal circuit. Otherwise it is similar to the function diagram, which however shows the interaction of the functions better visually.
The task formulation on which the diagram is based is the same as for the flow diagram and function diagram.
