Electromagnetic compatibility

Statement on the response sensitivity of components and machines to electrical, i.e. predominantly electromagnetic fields. It is a physical occurrence that may need to be addressed by means of suitable measures, that is by screening these components.

For this purpose materials with high permeability are used. The most widespread method is screening cables that carry signals. Here there are effective screening methods available. A radical manner of addressing this aspect is the transition to optical fibre technology.

Important information is given in:

  • Council Directive 89/336/EEC of 3 May 1989 on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to electromagnetic compatibility (89/336/EEC)
  • DIN EN 50 081 Electromagnetic compatibility — Generic emission standard
  • DIN EN 50 082 Electromagnetic compatibility — Generic immunity standard.
