Digital control

A control that operates within the signal processingwith digital signals and that primarily processes numerically represented signals (Figure D 28).

The signal processing is undertaken primarily with digital function units, such as counters, registers, memory and computer systems. The information to be processed is normally represented in a binary code (DIN 19 237).

Due to the binary signals, digital controls are only able to intervene in a discrete manner in the process to be controlled. They are therefore also called discontinuous controls. By selecting the step width they can, however, be adapted to almost all continuity and accuracy requirements.
