Accumulators, which are increasingly used in hydraulics in the form of hydraulic accumulators, are considered dangerous systems due to the high (gas pressures) that occur inside them and require special monitoring. This monitoring is defined in the Druckbehälterverordnung (German regulations on pressure vessels) dated 27 Feb. 1980 with an amendment dated 21 April 1989 as well as UVV 17 from the Berufsgenossenschaft (responsible authority in Germany).
An important point is the check on the accumulator by TÜV, which is not necessary in group II (pressure-litre product p · l <200) and which in group III (200 < p · l ≦1 000) is undertaken at the manufacturer. Vessels with a pressure-litre product above 1 000 must be inspected by TÜV at the operating organisation every 8 years.
The installation and equipment for accumulators are defined by the "Technischen Regeln Druckbehälter (TRB)" (German technical rules on accumulators). Information on the necessary measures is provided by, among others, the manufacturers of hydraulic accumulators.
