Measuring system in which the information on the actual (absolute) position is always available. For this purpose the sensor (e.g. glass measuring scale) must provide additional information. This information is provided via additional tracks that have a binary layout and that output the required information (Figure D 25).
A disadvantage is the large amount of effort required for larger measured lengths and small increments.
