Freising, Germany, July 18, 2025 – HAWE Hydraulik's Freising plant is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year – a significant milestone for the group. Since opening in 1965, the Freising site has been a symbol of technical innovation, industrial efficiency, and regional ties.
As the oldest production site in the HAWE Group, Freising occupies a special position. The decision to locate here was made back in 1963, after the city of Freising had acquired a plot of land in the Lerchenfeld district two years earlier. The first phase of construction of the plant was completed in 1965 with an area of 2,100 square meters, followed by several expansions – to today's production area of around 15,000 square meters with state-of-the-art equipment for the manufacture and assembly of hydraulic units, pumps, and customized system technology solutions for national and international customers, which are used in a wide range of applications. In addition to the industries in which they are now commonly used, the solutions are also found in the chassis of hypercars, super sports cars and special vehicles, in soccer stadiums, in brake systems for wind turbines and in steering systems for sports boats.
"Freising has been and remains an important part of our company's development. We have been manufacturing, developing, and training here for over six decades," says COO Christof Gilnhammer. "We are proud of what we have achieved and, despite the challenging economic times, we look to the future with courage and confidence."
Investing in the future and training
Today, the HAWE plant in Freising is a future-oriented manufacturing site for hydraulic components—and at the same time a training center for qualified young professionals. With a total of around 360 employees, the site is one of the largest employers in the Freising region. Starting in the coming training year, a total of 37 trainees will complete their training in five technical and industrial professions, including industrial mechanic, production technologist, and IT specialist for application development. Anyone interested in training at HAWE Hydraulik can currently apply for the 2026 training program. All open training positions and information on the application process can be found online at www.hawe.com/ausbildung.
"Promoting young talent is an integral part of our corporate culture," emphasizes plant manager Josef Schweiger. "Especially in times of skilled labor shortages, high-quality training is essential – for us as a company, but also for the entire region."
Strong roots in the region
In addition to technological development, the Freising plant attaches great importance to its regional responsibility. The site regularly supports social and educational initiatives – most recently with the donation of a modern training stand to the Freising vocational school and a monetary donation to MibiKids, an association that supports children with a migrant background. "As a long-standing partner of the city and the region, we want to make a contribution not only economically but also socially," adds Schweiger.
All HAWE locations worldwide also pursue a holistic approach to environmental protection. In recent years, for example, the existing natural gas boilers in Freising have been replaced with heat pumps, LED lighting has been installed, and heat recovery systems have been installed for the compressed air compressors. These and other measures enable the plant to save around 2,700 MWh/a annually.
