External support

The displacement units in a hydrostatic displacement machine (vane, piston) are supported on an outer raceway that at the same time defines the stroke of the displacement unit due to the eccentric mounting in relation to the rotor. External support requires internal fluid admission in the displacement chambers as fluid drawn is in.

Application: vane pumps, valve-less radial piston pumps.

Opposite: internal support.
