Measuring procedure in which within the measuring range every value of the measured variable as an input variable is continuously assigned a value in the output range.
The continuous assignment between measured variable and output variable is in practice converted into a non-continuous assignment due to friction, play etc. Also a finite change in the input variable is necessary for a change in the output variable in the majority of cases (response value) (VDI/VDE 2600).
